In the Philippines, the aswang is a fiendish, supernatural creature that will drink the blood of an unborn baby.

Long time ago, when a was about 10 years-old, I was walking home by myself, next to a nipa hut, next to a bamboo grove of trees.

Someone or something called out to me from the dark house. I flung a rock into the darkness and ran as fast as I could to safety at my Lolo and Lola’s house. But when I saw the lights go on at the nipa hut while my big guy cousins shouted out in alarmed voices, I decided to go back and see what happened.

To my horror, my cousin was passed out on the ground, unconscious. I think the aswang got him!
